World Turtle Day!

Celebrate World Turtle Day with our friends at the Freshwater Bayou! Are you celebrating the unique beauty of turtles?

At Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters, we love our turtles! At our Freshwater Bayou, our guests can experience the magic of our resident turtles first-hand during any excursion to our park.

Each year since 1990, the American Tortoise Rescue, a not for profit group dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and protection of turtles, and their environments, has sponsored World Turtle Day.

Since their founding in 1990, the American Tortoise Rescue has placed over 3,000 tortoises and turtles in caring foster homes around the country as a result of unique partnerships with local law enforcement to help save turtle species. The organization offers sanctuary to abandoned and lost tortoises, as well as special needs care for turtles who require additional help. They also act as a national clearinghouse for information related to the care, feeding and rehabilitation of endangered and captive-bred tortoises.

Happy World Turtle Day!Today, May 23rd, marks the celebration of World Turtle Day. This annual event serves to promote awareness of the plight of the turtle and tortoise species – many of which are critically endangered, or live in disappearing habitats.

Turtles and tortoises are among the world’s oldest creatures and should be respected and celebrated as esteemed members of our global community.

Next time you are at the Aquarium, stop by and say hello to our friends in the Freshwater Bayou! Our Freshwater and Florida Box Turtles are especially excited about celebrating World Turtle Day!
